Rep. Bernard Blue Benson Launches “Who Owns District 17?” Inter-High School Academic Competition

The Office of the Representative of District 17, Montserrado County, has announced the launch of a major academic competition aimed at promoting education and intellectual development among students across the district.

The initiative, titled “Who Owns District 17? – Inter High School Meet the Challenge,” will bring together 50 high schools to compete in a knowledge-based contest designed to test students’ academic abilities and critical thinking skills.

According to the Office of the Representative, the competition will officially begin in March 2026 and is expected to attract participation from dozens of schools within and around District 17.

Organizers say the initiative is intended to encourage healthy academic rivalry, inspire students to prioritize their studies, and create opportunities for schools to showcase their brightest talents.

As part of the competition, participating schools will have the chance to win several prizes, including significant cash awards. The school that emerges as the overall winner will receive L$150,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Liberian Dollars), while the second-place winner will be awarded L$80,000 (Eighty Thousand Liberian Dollars).

Officials from the District 17 Representative Office noted that the program forms part of broader efforts to invest in education and youth empowerment within the district.

The “Who Owns District 17?” competition is expected to become a major academic event, bringing together students, educators, and community members while fostering a spirit of excellence among young scholars.
